Elaborately decorative and fascinating piece with many details. The costume is composed of many parts, some smaller semi three-dimensional pieces are sewn on many different larger lobes on the back. Descrizione: ELABORATE TALL JADE VASE Jade. China, late Qing-Dynasty, 19th to early 20th century HEIGHT 38,5 CM 玉尊. 中國, 清代晚期. 高 38,5 厘米 A very magnificent jade vase, intricately crafted and designed in the archaic style of Fanggu (square Gu). Characteristically shaped foot flaring to rim and beneath middle section of the body a protruding and slightly arched decorative section depicting five vivid and nearly three-dimensional crafted Chi-dragons (Chilong) offering a smooth salamander-like body. The dragons with triangular flat heads and serrated, split tails which terminate in volutes. The vase stands on a flared and elongated foot surmounted of an elongated and slightly curved body terminating in a curved mouth rim with slightly inverted edges and a lobed middle section of the body with three protruding vertical lines, finely contrasting the vivid Chilong. Partly strong oxidation with yellow-red shade to create an appealing vivid aspect and contrast to the light green jade. Foot presenting carvings of Chi-dragons.

China, Kangxi mark (1662 - 1722) HEIGHT 15,3 CM A small underglaze blue vase raised on a straight foot and surmounted of an bottle-shaped body running into an arched neck with looped handles. Vase depicting a powerfully painted landscape of a broad lake and buildings with arched roofs amidst high willow trees and boats floating on the lake and four figures standing on a stone bridge and working with tools. Foot section and mouth rim presenting floral borders. Below looped handles some semi-plastic flowers with foliage. Recessed base, four character-mark with lake and figures and floral decoration, Kangxi nian zhi 康熙年製. Good condition.

Descrizione: AN ELABORATE MODELLED FIGURE OF A LYING BOY WITH TORTOISE. Netsuke, ivory. Japan, 19th cent. LENGTH 5,1 CM. The boy is a karako (a Chinese boy) and the tortoise is his playmate. Very fine carving in all details, subtle expression of the face, some restorations. English description apon request. Bezaubernde Arbeit, überaus genau in den kleinsten Details. Der Knabe ist chinesisch gewandet, ein Karako (chines. Knabe) somit. Er liegt bäuchlings am Boden ausgestreckt, hat aber den Kopf erhoben, weil er seinem Spielzeug zuschaut. Dieses bewegt sich kriechend seinen Podex hinauf (heute würde man einen ferngesteuerten Panzer verwenden). Die Kame (Schildkröte) ist verschnürt, sodaß sie wie ein Paketchen getragen werden kann. Der Knabe hat auch ein Stäbchen in der Hand, mit dem wird er die Schildkröte wohl dirigieren. Auf seinem Kopf hat er die chines. Art der Haarbüschel, damit der Hausgott bei Feuer ihn aus dem Brand herausziehen kann. Smarte kleine Himotoshi im Gürtelbereich, restauriert.

Descrizione: A SMALL CURIOUS IVORY GROUP OF THE CHINNAN SENNIN WITH A BOY. Netsuke, ivory. Japan, Meiji, late 19th cent. WIDTH 4,2 CM. He is sitting beside hollowed rocks. One ringed Himotoshi at the bottom. English description apon request. Eine richtig landschaftlich-szenische Darstellung, der Chinnan, ein Magier, befindet sich links außen, er hält einen Topf in die Höhe, aus dem eine (Rauch)Schlange entsteigt, sie wird sich zum Drachen verwandeln. Daneben kantiges Gefels und vor diesem ein am Boden knieender Knabe mit Blattfächer. Unterseits in der Platte ein rosettiertes Himotoshi.

Descrizione: KOSEN: AN EXPRESSIVELY MOULDED MASK. Netsuke, burnt clay. Japan, 19th cent. HEIGHT 4,4 CM. A mask of the Beshimy-type, burnt clay with glaze, signed on the back Kosen. Dargestellt ist die Maske eines Beshimi-Typus, ausgeführt in rotem gebranntem Ton mit etwas weißer Glasur. Diese bringt die expressiven Augen zum Leuchten, ein wenig auch die Zähne. Rückseits Siegel Ko-sen.

India, Maharashtra, early 19th century HEIGHT 17,8 CM A yellow bronze sculpture with a graded plinth and a patterned platform atop, depicting a linga-yoni symbol symbolizing Shiva rising within a coiled snake body. On the front of the linga is the reclining nandi. The upper section of the one-headed Naga offers a very expressively spread shield whereas the head is very delicate with an artful and sensitive expression. Patina and traces of lacquer. India, 19th century HEIGHTS ABOUT 22 CM, WIDTHS 7 CM An appealing wooden group of four figurines, all standing on a curved base, mounted on a rectangular plate (each with a suspension on the back). The figurines display wide eyes, tied-up hair with adornments and large breasts, clothed in long robes decorated by floral patterns, the legs in dance pose while two figurines with anjali mudra. Overall mostly good, somewhat varied condition of the old coloring. From a German collection

Centered of a crowned and black bearded man, standing below a peacock and a deity and holding lotus and club (or sword) in both hands, the lower section presents scenery of various figures, a demon, probably Mahisa, tigers, Ganesha and other figures. Very appealing painting, amusing and colourful! From a Viennese collection

Descrizione: VASE Dark brown glazed stoneware. Ancient Kingdom of Khmer, about 11 to early 12th Century HEIGHT 33 CM An eccentrically composed “baluster shaped” vase with a flared foot and strongly flared funnel-shaped neck. Several circumferential ridges – around the foot, the base of the body of the vase, at the neck, etc. – strikingly divide the piece in sections, around the base of the neck there is a band of cross notches, conically tapered with a broadly widening body and slenderer countermovement at the foot and opening. The underside of the opening is finned and the thin lip is pointed upward sharply. The colour of the glaze is brownish-black, the flat bottom is unglazed. Slight weathering on foot portion, restored spots on neck, overall good condition. Note.: In KHMER CERAMICS from the Southeast Asian Ceramic Society (Singapore 1981) No. 83 there is a very similar, comparable example of approximately the same height, and in KHMER CERAMICS, Oxford University Press 1984, in Nos. 102 and 103 there are also comparable examples (somewhat larger in height) From a German private collection

Kingdom of Khmer, Angkor Wat, 12th century HEIGHT (WITHOUT BASE) 45,5 Cm, WIDTH 30 CM A nearly rectangular and tall temple frieze slightly arching to the top depicting the guardian deities – Indra to the left and unusually seated like Buddha on a lotus throne in paryankasana, Isha to the right, two-armed, riding the white bull Nandi (horns flattened due to age). Elaborate and beautifully crafted arched tapering and flaming mandorla (aureole) slightly bending forward. Mounted on a fine base. From a German private collection

Descrizione: BUDDHA SEATED UNDER THE SHIELD OF ASEVEN-HEADED NAGA Sandstone. Ancient Kingdom of Khmer, Bayon Period, 12th/13th century HEIGHT (WITHOUT BASE) 67 CM A sandstone sculpture despicting a motive, which is common in Ceylon or Southeastern Asia and above all became famous through the sculptural art of the Ancient Khmer. Gautama Buddha seated in Paryankasana beneath the shield of a Naga and with hands in Dhyana Mudra (meditation) on the twisted snake-body. Very powerfully crafted body of the sculpture and resting in itself, which also applies to head face. The head with curly hair and a conical Ushnisha in shape of a lotus bud. Very impressive execution of the characterful face offering a meditative and introverted expression. Buddha’s head topped of the large-sized Naga head (the present one depicting Muchalinda / Mucilinda the King of all Naga, who protected Buddha from a strong tropical downpour at the moment of his enlightenment). To reverse of snake shield an expressively crafted scaled structure and one Cakra-symbol. Traces of lacquer, remnants of former colour, weathering due to age, good condition. Mounted on a black base.

Korea, Yi Dynasty, 19th century DIAMETER 78 CM, THICKNESS ABOUT 6 CM An openworked and round wood carving offering rich and detailed depictions, centered of a square reserve with depicting three dimensionally carved figurines of children both holding fish and coins and seated amidst fish and bats, to the each edge of the square one round section, each with an inscription – Gong Fa Xi Cai 恭發喜財 (respect, many descendents, joy and prosperity) – and between the sections artfully excuted,openworked carvings of Babao ( the “Eights Treasures”) placed amidst scroll bands. Descrizione: FOUR PART SCREEN WITH ANIMALS Indian ink and paint on silk. Korea, Choson, 19th century. TOTAL SIZE 181.7 x 175.5 CM, EACH PAINTING 125.5 x 33.5 CM All four paintings are brocade-mounted and are the same size. Starting from the left, there are chickens, herons, cranes and dogs. The rooster and hen stand in front of green bamboo and a high cliff which slants upward. Rooster, hen, bamboo, cliff, etc. symbolize the joys of country life. The white heron – symbol of longevity – in front of the lotus symbolizes purity. The heron is standing on one leg in the water, alongside the lotus with large leaves reeds with white blossoms are growing. The most effective and symbolically strongest image is the third one from the left. The pine tree is immense and weaves its way from the bottom to the top of the picture. Two red crowned cranes are standing on the stem; both – the pine tree and the crane – are proven symbols of longevity. The short inscription “Old pine trees – slender cranes” (songlao heshou 松老鸖瘦) makes reference to this. The image on the far right portrays two spotted dogs under a wutong tree behind which a full moon is shining. All images (with the exception of that with the herons) have longer inscriptions written in calligraphy. Poems. Good condition. From an Austrian private collection

Descrizione: EAGLE ON STEEP CLIFF Indian ink and paint on silk. Korea, Choson, 19th century. FRAME 141.7 x 44.9 CM, PAINTING 123 x 32 CM A concisely composed image with sharp-edged rock spikes from which branches with red blossoms emerge rising from the bottom left. The bird of prey sits on the highest point. It has a white breast with black spots; the rest of its plumage is brown and black. The eagle’s head is facing downward and the eyes are sharply focussed. The eagle is portrayed very realistically and is very well-painted. In the upper right there is a doublerow calligraphy inscription next to which there are two red artist’s seals. Overall good condition, with mounting and frame. From an Austrian private collection

HEIGHT (WITHOUT FEATHERS) 43,5 CM An effectively crafted wooden mask, of elongated ovoid shape, front, ears, eyebrows and beard formed of clay, ears and nostrils decorated with kauri snail shell and nassa. Two arched tusks protruding from nostrils, drop-shaped and black encircled eyes and a small opened mouth. Atop the front a row of black feathers terminating with two tassels on each ear, the mask circled of black painted wickerwork. From a German collection

Indonesia, Java ca. 10th century HEIGHT 10 CM A rare old Indonesian figurine dating to the Buddhist dynasty of Shailendra and depicting figures of Padmapani and Tara, each seated on separate lotus plinths. Mounted on one rectangular and stepped lower base, both in Paryankasana with the right hand in varada mudra while the other hand is holding lotus, crowned, bejewelled, and both encircled by a pointed flaming aureole. Evenly covered by bright green patina. Minor chips due to age. From an Austrian collection
