Descrizione: THE FEMALE DEITY PRAJNAPARAMITA Bronze, ancient Khmer-Empire, approx. 13th century. HEIGHT (WITHOUT MODERN BASE) 20,5 CM This sculpture presumably depicts a Hindu Uma or a Parvati, but it could possibly also be a Prajnaparamita, as Buddhism was strongly encouraged during the Bayon-Era under the reign of King Jayavarman VII. The attribute presented could be a book, namely because Prajnaparamita represents a personification of Prajna as a symbol of the intuitive wisdom. She is a Bodhisattva and known to be the „Mother of All Buddhas“. A bronze sculpture of Prajnaparamita with a tiara and adornments to ears, Mala around the chest and Valaya around arms and ankles. One hand with a Dhoti and the other holding an attribute, presumably lotus. Strong, green patina, remnants of black lacquer with gilding. The figure is standing on a square base and mounted on a modern stepped plinth. From a Viennese collection
